Dept. of Student Welfare organized an orientation programme for the new entrants. The venue was Dev Raj Auditorium. This programme was designed for acquainting the new entrants with the rich legacy of KMV and the various innovative student-oriented programs run by this glorious institution of higher education. Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi blessed the students & gave them best wishes on the commencement of the new session. She exhorted them to avail the full benefit of the state-of-the-art infrastructure and the initiatives taken by this heritage institution for creating global citizens. She maintained that the outstanding results and the well placed alumni of KMV throws ample light on the fact that at KMV quality education meets global standards. Later a presentation on the topic “Know Your KMV” was made by Dr. Deepika Anand. The presentation giving a detailed account of the institution attempted at familiarizing all the new students with this institution par excellence. A presentation on the activities of the Department of Student Welfare was made by Dr. Neetu Chopra, Mrs. Rashmi Sharma and the Student Council members. All the co-coordinators of various programmes were also present on the occasion and were introduced to the students. The programme was very successful. Soon after its completion the enthusiastic students started approaching concerned teachers for getting enrolled into the very valuable programmes for competitive exams, personality development course, Spoken English, Foreign Languages etc. as many as 500 students who were new admissions attended this program.

COLLEGE TOURS ORGANIZED
College tours was also organized for the new students to make them familiar with different departments and other prominent venues in the college. It continued for two days with the noble intent of familiarizing the new students with the campus. As many as 550 students were the beneficiaries of these guided tours organized by the Dept. of Student Welfare.

A help desk was setup by the Dept. of Student Welfare at a central point (outside the Auditorium) for helping the new students in case of any queries or difficulties. All queries and problems of the students were satisfactorily addressed. The members of Student Welfare Dept. came to the rescue of students in case of any difficulties. This help desk operated round the clock during the working hours for a month from 29-07-2017 to 29-08-2017. This gesture was widely appreciated by the new students and played a pivotal role in making them comfortable in the new ambience.
The Book Bank operating under the Dept. of Student Welfare collects books from the students towards the end of the session and offers them to the students who need them. This generation of knowledge resources is of much help to the students. The books are given throughout the year to the students. As many as 500 books were distributed to the needy students.
TREE PLANTATION DRIVE
Saplings of Life Club organized a Tree Plantation Drive in collaboration with Rotary Club. Many trees were planted inside the campus to add to its lush greenery. 50 students participated in the drive. They also pledged to nurture the trees planted by them.
KMV CELEBRATES TEACHERS’ DAY CELEBRATIONS
Teachers’ Day was celebrated with full zeal and enthusiasm. The Principal, faculty members and students paid tribute to the Second President of India Sarvpalli Dr. Radha Krishnan. The teachers are the nation builders and this profession stands for commitment, dedication, honestly, responsibility and high moral standards. Madam Principal gave her best wishes to the staff and students. On this occasion, Ms. Neeru Bhatia, Ms. Poonam Sharma and Ms. Anu from Music Dept. sang songs dedicated to the teachers. 100 students of KMV had made beautiful cards with gratitudinal messages for the teachers and these were given to all the teachers present on the occasion.
We have an active and strong ‘Student Council’ which is involved without exception in the smooth conduct and organization of almost all co-curricular activities. This year a one hundred forty member KMV council, for the session 2017-18, was installed in an impressive investiture ceremony in which Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi pinned badged on all the members. Oath of Office was administered to all the members through which they promised to uphold the policies of the institution while faithfully executing the duties of their office.
The council comprises representatives from all classes of various faculties as well as sports, hostel and ECA. The members discharge duties according to the committees into which they have been inducted. The various committees include discipline, student mentoring, campus beautification, library and event management. These committees are headed by captains from all the faculties. Dept. of Student Welfare took the lead in organizing celebrations on being bestowed with the Autonomous status. The celebrations were carried out in the Auditorium and the much jubilant students missed no opportunity of dancing and celebrating.
ECO-FRIENDLY DIWALI CELEBRATED
Dept. of Student Welfare and P.G. Dept. of English celebrated Eco friendly Diwali. The celebrations started with a carnival. The students with painted faces and masks, placards and chanting of slogans made it loud and clear that it is high time we started taking initiatives for protecting the environment. Then a Nukkad Natak portraying the same theme was presented by the students of B.Sc. Med. Many students expressed their views in the form of speeches and poems. Then they pinned batches on teachers and students conveying the message of saving environment and celebrating eco friendly Diwali. The students also distributed cards and displayed posters and slogans with the endeavor to spread the message of pollution free Diwali celebrations. Madam Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi. She averred that realizing the worth of environment is the foremost duty of educated people. Students at K.M.V. realize their onus and continue spreading messages to create a pollution free environment. The whole atmosphere was abuzz with the message and students were successful in creating environment awareness. The whole central lawn was bubbling with activity.
KMV FACULTY AND STUDENTS CELEBRATE DIWALI
Kanya Maha Vidyalaya -the Heritage Institution celebrated the “Festival of Lights – Diwali” with full zeal, zest and enthusiasm. This Diwali Celebration was indeed a special Diwali for all the members of KMV family after being bestowed with Status of First Women Autonomous College of Punjab. The celebration commenced with special festivities in Central garden of the college in which faculty members and students enlightened everyone about the triumph of good over evil, prosperity over poverty and knowledge over ignorance. On this special occasion, Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi congratulated all the teaching, non-teaching and multitask staff members. In the morning teachers and students cleaned the college campus. Students decorated classroom boards, lightened diyas and made colorful greeting card. Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi wished staff members and students on this occasion and told them about the importance of Diwali and emphasized on to take a pledge to have safe and pollution free Diwali. On the occasion, faculty members also celebrated the occasion by singing melodious songs and enjoyed dance performances based on the Diwali festival.

Department of Student Welfare celebrated Achievers’ Day in the KMV Auditorium to honor all the brilliant students who had bagged the University positions in the session 2016-17. All the students who had got merit positions by dint of their hard work, devotion, single-minded resoluteness and commitment were jubilant on receiving trophies from Madam Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi. Congratulating the Achievers, Madam Principal opined that KMV is the nurturing ground of scholars and that 210 students had come forth as achievers bears testimony to the same. She averred that the meritorious students must continue to strive towards excellence in future also.
Tree Plantation drive was carried on by the Sapling of Life Club under the aegis of Dept. of Student Welfare and many trees were planted by the Principal, faculty and students of KMV. The students promised to nurture the trees planted by them. In collaboration with Dainik Jagran a tree plantation drive was carried out in the college.
KMV OBSERVED WORLD AIDS AWARENESS DAY
Kanya Maha Vidyalaya- The Heritage Institution, Jalandhar’s Red Ribbon Club which operates under the aegis of Department of Student welfare observed World AIDS Awareness Day. Students made Red Ribbons and distributed them to their fellow students to make them aware of the significance of this particular day. A Mobile Quiz was organized and students were asked some questions on this fell disease. Presentations providing valuable information dispelling the myths regarding AIDS were made by students and faculty members alike. Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi asked the students to impart the precious knowledge regarding this disease to whosoever they find is in need of the information AIDS tests are carried out under complete secrecy in special centres at Civil Hospital. She maintained that AIDS has acquired monstrous proportions and awareness regarding this fatal disease can play a pivotal role in curbing the menace. Further adumbrated that we should serve humanity and start from serving those around us. Empathy and compassion should be imbibed by us in our conduct. Educational institutions are the best places to spread awareness. Therefore observance of World AIDS Day is a regular annual feature at KMV. The identity of the victim in never disclosed. Timely help can help the victims improve the quality of life. Then Dr. Madhumeet, Dean, Student welfare made students take solemn oath to spread awareness regarding social menaces like AIDS was taken by all the students and faculty members. They pledged to serve the society and help the suffering people around them. Mrs. SadhanaTandon, Head, Dept. of Zoology threw light on the causes, precautions and treatment of this fell disease. Ms.Anika ,Dept.of life sciences made a presentation on AIDS Awareness. Madam Principal appreciated Dr. Madhumeet & Mrs. Sadhana Tandon who are both co-incharges of Red Ribbon Club and Mrs. Veena Deepak ,Co-ordinator, KMV Collegiate School for this initiative. Many seminars and other activities pertaining to the awareness of AIDS are carried out at KMV from time to time.
KMV ORGANIZES AN EXTENSION LECTURE ON CLEANLINESS DRIVE (SWACHHATA ABHIYAN)
Kanya Maha Vidyalaya- the Autonomous Heritage Institution organized an Extension lecture- cum- workshop in collaboration with Municipal corporation to apprise the students and faculty members about the crying need of being committed to the cause of keeping the city and the surroundings clean. Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi Principal KMV maintained that the real purpose of education is to sensitize students with their responsibility towards the society and environment and thus striving to make them responsible human beings. Activities such as the present one are very relevant for the above said reason. Dr. Sunita Abrol, Mr. Pardeep and Ms. Monica from Municipal Corporation delved in detail of the need of cleanliness drives and also apprised students about a link launched by Govt. of India through Municipal Corporation seeking the support and participation of the faculty members and students in the cleanliness drive to improve Jalandhar's ratings for smart city. The students felt the presence of officials very reassuring and they believed that they will improve the condition of the city then the students took an oath to keep the environment clean. Madam Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi appreciated the collaborative endeavors of N.S.S and Department of Student Welfare. FAREWELL TO DR. DEEPIKA BY THE STUDENT COUNCIL
The Dept. of Student Welfare organized the farewell party of Dr. Deepika, Asso. Prof. P.G. Dept. of English. There were songs, dances and a lot of emotional quotient. Such celebrations sensitize the students and play a vital role in making them better human beings.
PROGRAM BY FM RADIO 92.7
Dept. of Student Welfare organized a program by FM Radio 92.7 in which RJ Sandy asked the KMVites various questions to which they very wittingly responded. The students showcased their talent by dancing and singing. The program was aired on 92.7 radio and was telecasted on the channel owned by the radio.
Series of Counselling Sessions Organised
The Counselling Cell under the aegis of Dept. of Student Welfare organised a series of Counselling sessions for the psychological well being of our ward. Individual and group Counselling sessions were held by the faculty members and the students of the Department of Psychology. In individual counselling sessions students were counselled on a pot pourri of issues ranging from personal to academic and career oriented ones. These sessions were of much use to the students who felt much relaxed after attending these. In group counseling sessions experts threw light on various psychological issues like stress, Positive attitude and personality development. Around 50 students availed the benefit of individual counseling in a short the period.
SWACHTA ABHIYAN AT K.M.V.
Kanya Maha Vidyalaya- the Heritage and Autonomous institution's the swachta drived launched honourable by Prime minister Sh. Narandra Modi Ji is being pursued relentlessly and regularly. The recent in the chain of such activities is the oath taking ceremony organized jointly the Dept. of Student Welfare and the department of Journalism and Mass Communication. The ever innovative and creative students of the Dept. of Journalism who always aspire to be social changes were linked with the Swachta drive by completing a project of making a video on the same. The video aims at making the youth aware of the problems related to cleanness and hence making them better and strong citizens. Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi observed that the Swachta Abhiyan could only be successful if all sections of the society involved themselves with it. It is inperetive for every educational institution to be closely linked to the abhiyan and play an important role by taking right steps on the right -direction at the appropriate time. She appreciated the efforts put in by the Dept. of Journalism for creating the video and also the Dean Dept. of student Welfare Dr. Madhumeet and Mrs. Sadhna Tandon.
K.M.V. celebrates National Youth Day
The N.S.S. unit of Kanya Maha Vidyalaya-the Heritage and Autonomous Institution's, Jalandhar in collaboration with Department of Political Science and Student Welfare Dept. organized a series of activities to mark the celebration of Swami Vivekananda's birth anniversary. The Principal of K.M.V. Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi discussed the detail the rich legacy of Swami Vivekanand. She spoke at length about Swamiji's life and contribution to India and to the world. Quoting Vivekananda she averred that the youth should believe in themselves and by doing so they can achieves the goals. She further adumbrated the youth should question unexamined practices and do away with superstitions and dogmas and create a healthy society. This lecture was followed by debate and declamation contest on "Swami Vivekananda As a Youth Icon". Navroz Kaur won the first prize in contest, Liza won second prize and consolation prize were given to Pawan. A Poster/Slogan writing competition on the life and achievements of Swami Vivekananda was also organized. The first prize in this competition won by Simranjeet and second prize won by Kulwinder Kaur. 100 students participated in these activities. Madam Principal congratulated the students and lauded the efforts of Dr. Madhumeet, Ashima Sahni, Anandprabha, Ramanpreet and Richa Sharma for the successful organization of the event.
KMV Book Bank distributes books to students
Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, the Heritage Autonomous Institution, Jalandhar Book Bank which operated under the aegis of the Dept. of Student Welfare distributed free books to the students. Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi. maintained that KMV's Book Bank is operational throughout the year. Students deposit the syllabus oriented books of their previous classes in the Book Bank and those who used the books can get them from here without having to buy them. The students are given books free of cost. This is a great service to the needy students. Moreover students become aware of their duties as responsible citizens. As the new session has commenced the KMV Book Bank put up an exhibition of books of all subjects. As many as 500 students donated their old books and 400 students got books on various subjects like English, History, Chemistry, Maths etc. This exhibition will continue for 10 days. Students will continue donating and collecting more books in this duration. She lauded Dr. Madhumeet, Dean Student Welfare and Dr. Iqbal, HOD Punjabi for this humanitarian initiative She also appreciated the students council for being involved in the flawless functioning of book Bank.

K.M.V. Celebrates Basant Panchmi
Kanya Maha Vidyalaya-The Heritage and Autonomous Institution, Jalandhar celebrated the festival of Basant Panchmi with zeal and enthusiasm. The students and faculty dressed in yellow added to the brightness of the celebrations. The Principal of KMV Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi congratulated the students and the faculty and wished for the bright future of the students and maintained that the festival stands for zeal, enthusiasm, new energy, new life, brightness, joy and prosperity and may the fragrance of flowers spread in the life of everybody. After paying homage to Goddess Saraswati, hymns and songs dedicated to goddess Saraswati and to the festival to Basant were presented by the students and the faculty members. The students had made colorful kites on the occasion. A kite-flying competition added to the festivities. Madam Principal lauded the efforts of the organizing team Dr. Madhumeet, Ms. Poonam Sharma, and Rashmi Randev for the successful organization of the event.
SUBHASH CHANDER BOSE JAYANTI CELEBRATED IN KMV
Kanya Maha Vidyalaya-The Heritage and Autonomous Institution, Jalandhar paid rich tribute to Neta Ji Subhash Chander Bose on his 121st birth anniversary today. Students of BJMC in collaboration with the Department of Student Welfare organized the same. The Young girls present pledged to fight against corruption and injustice. The ideas for which Netaji fought and sacrificed his life. Netaji, one of the most celebrated freedom fighters of India and a great charmer of the youth established and led the INA (Indian National Army) from the front. Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi outlined the great contribution of Netaji to the Indian struggle for freedom and the momentum his ideals grase to the national spirit of Nationalism and patriotism. Students also enthusiastically participated in a poster making competition organized on the occasion. The topics for the same were.

KMV is fully aware to our Social and Civil Responsibilities. To bring awareness regarding our responsibilities Dept. of Student Welfare organised a seminar in which various erudite officials from Municipal Corporation apprised the students regarding Swacchta Abhiyan carried out by the Civil administration in connection with the Smart City states for Jalandhar. The eminent speakers also threw light on an app which when downloaded can accomplish a person to complaint against any spot full of garbage and dirt. This information was of great relevance to the students.
BLOOD DONATION CAMP AT K.M.V.
At the Heritage Institution Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) where social outreach activities are a routine affair, the latest was a Blood Donation Camp on the campus. This Camp was organized by the joint efforts of the KMV Red Ribbon Club under the aegis of Student Welfare Department, the NSS Unit of KMV and the Lions Club, Jalandhar Green Preet. This camp was inaugurated by Mr. Bawa Henry (M.L.A., Jalandhar North). The SDM, Jalandhar Sh.Paramveer Singh and the medical team consisted of Dr.Gagandeep Singh, B.T.O., Civil Hospital, Jalandhar and Mrs.Sudeep also graced the occasion. The students volunteered to donate blood in large number. It was heartening to see the new generation respond to positively to this benign social activity. Around 80 units of blood were collected. It was ensured that the blood donation did not affect the donor adversely and also that the blood collected was healthy and fit for transfusion. The Principal of KMV Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi appreciated the efforts of the donors and the organizers Dr.Madhumeet, Dean Student Welfare, Mrs.Sadhna Tandon, Mrs.Manju Sahni, Dr.Harpreet and Ms.Ashima Sahni and said that it gave her great happiness and satisfaction that the activity of the day was going to save many precious human lives. It is an annual feature at K.M.V. and many students are anxious to contribute to the noble cause. Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi was also appreciatd of the intiative of Mr.Maan Singh of Liðns Club Green Preet as the Club makes a substantial contribution to noble causes.
KMV Principal interacts with Student Council
KMV Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi often interacts with the KMVites. Her interaction with the Students Council members is very significant as the Council comprises the leader body of KMV. All the students and faculty members repose tremendous faith in the Student Council members who perform various duties during all the activities of the college. Madam Principal’s address was very inspiring and motivating and further inculcated the spirit of leadership in the students. Her valuable discourse was followed by an interactive session in which student freely expressed their views. Prof. Atima Sharma was very appreciative of all the student welfare members headed by Dr. Madhumeet who were constantly endeavouring to chisel the Council Members.
KMV celebrates Holi with zeal and fervour
Holi- the festival of colors was celebrated in the premises of Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, the Autonomous and Heritage Institution, Jalandhar, the teachers and students of the college celebrated Holi with the flowers and eco-friendly colors to mark the festival. On this festival of colors, sweets were distributed among all present. Students and teachers sang songs and danced to enjoy this festival in its true spirit. Principal of the college Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi also enjoyed the festival and congratulated all the faculty members and the students. She averred that such festivities give a break from the monotonous routine and are therefore always welcomed.
KMV Pays Nostalgic tribute to Shaheed-E-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh
The Martydom Day of Shaheed Bhagat Singh was celebrated with great reverence and pride at KMV- the glorious institution where he used to seek shelter during the days of freedom struggle. Addressing the students, Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that they should have idols like Shaheed Bhagat Singh who were so suffused with the spirit of nationalism. An inspiring article written by President Arya Shiksha Mandal, Sh. Chander Mohan ji was also circulated to motivate the students. The article talks about memories of Sh. Varinder ji, father of Sh. Chander Mohan and erstwhile President of K.M.V. Managing Committee who was fortunate to be in the same Jail as Bhagat Singh when he was martyred. It recalls the pride with which this son of the soil told the Magistrate, “Mr. Magistrate you are fortunate to be able today to see how Indian Revolutionaries can embrace death with pleasure for the sake of supreme ideal”. The faculty and the students along with all the prominent guests pledged to fight a war for a Drug Free Punjab. In the end, the whole ambience was suffused with patriotism by rendition of national songs and all present parted with a sense of pride on being Indians and more so KMVites.
KMV celebrates World Water Day
Kanya Maha Vidyalaya- the Heritage and Autonomous Institution, Jalandhar's, Department of Student Welfare and Department of Life Science collaboratively celebrated World Water Day. The Departments organized Extempore and Chart Making Competition on the theme 'Nature for Water' in which students actively participated. Many issues like Water Conservation, Rain water Harvesting, Water Pollution were given a brilliant through projection the charts. The Appreciation Awards were given to Kashima (B.Sc. Medical) 4th Semester, Deepanshu (BAJMC) 2nd Semester, Paramveer and Muskan (B.Com) 2nd Semester and Arshdeep (B.A.) 2nd Semester. KMV Organizes Solidarity March for Safe World for Girls

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya-the Heritage and Autonomous Institution, Jalandhar organized a Solidarity March demanding a safe world for girls. The march which started from Namdev Chowk reached Shivani Park, Model Town, Jalandhar. 1200 KMVites with placards in hands bearing thought provoking slogans participated in the March. Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi, Principal KMV averred that KMVites show strong Solidarity with all girls and women who suffer barbarity and against whom heinous crimes continue to be committed. It is high time that gender related atrocities should be checked. We must all sensitize everyone around us regarding the fact that girls need a safer world to evolve and develop. A signature campaign followed at Shivani Park which saw the overwhelming participation of all present. A memorandum was also submitted to the Deputy Commissioner demanding a safe and secure environment for women denizens. The multi-lingual self-generated library of the students provides various books to students which they enjoy reading in their free time. As many as 275 books on various topics are available for the students to make students befriend books. It inculcates the habit of reading – a habit which is fast diminishing, in the students.
