KMV organises a National Webinar on Sports Ethics sponsored by Indian Council of Philosophical Research, New Delhi

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) organised a national webinar on Sports Ethicssponsored by the Indian Council of Philosophical Research, New Delhi. The webinar was organised by Department of Philosophy in association with Department of Physical Education. During the webinar, Prof. Dr. Geeta Manaktala, Panjab University, Chandigarh Dr. Rahul Kumar Maurya, Banaras Hindu University Gautam Kalotra, University of Delhi and Dr. Nishan Singh, Punjabi University, Patiala participated as the resource speaker. Prof. Geeta in her address talked on Philosophical Reflection on Sports Ethics. She eloquently defined ethics &also told it the basis of a truthful life. Dr. Rahul Kumar gave his talk on Sports Ethics- a Philosophical Perspective& also talked about the significance of sports from ancient times. He also threw light on different philosophical theories related to sports.Dr. Gautam Kalotra delivered his lecture on topic- Bhāvanā in Sports: The Ethics of Silence. He started with the quote that the healthy mind resides inside the healthy body but, how to attain healthy body? In order to answer he explained first sūtra of Yoga-sūtras saying with the union of subtle and gross body, we may attain the spirit and this will happen by living in the present. Dr. Kalotra explained how the concept of bhāvanā derives from the word Bhava meaning becoming or the subjective process of arousing mental states; it also signifies contemplation and spiritual cultivation. In addition to this he quoted Nāgārjuna, as according to Nāgārjuna’s the ethics of silence is philosophy of compassion and love. In the last session Prof. Dr. Nishan Singh Deol delivered his lecture on topic Sports Ethics. Prof. Deol elaborated on Fair Play, Ethical and Unethical behaviour in Sports, Ethical Dilemma of right and wrong way&Olympism. Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi thanked all the resource persons for sharing the valuable knowledge with the students. Madam Principal lauded the efforts of Dr. Ekta Saini, Head, Department of Philosophy & Dr Davinder Singh, Department of Physical Education for successfully organising this national webinar.
