KMV organises an interdisciplinary seminar on Gandhi’s Influence on Nelson Mandela in collaboration with Rotary Club, Jalandhar

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) organises an interdisciplinary seminar on Gandhi’s Influence on Nelson Mandela in collaboration with Rotary Club, Jalandhar. The seminar was organised jointly by Department of History & Political Science. Mrs. Neelam Mahey, PCS, Employment Officer, Kapurthala and KMV Alumniwas the chief guest for the occasion. In her welcome address, Principal Prof. Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that both Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela are one of the world’s greatest leaders that worked for human rights and human freedom by spreading the message of equality and non violence.In her address, Ms Neelam Mahey highlighted that if we want to improve the system, we must raise the voice again injustice and we should lodge the complaint. She also quoted the struggle of Nelson Mandela, when he was in jail for the elimination of apartheid in South Africa. MsMahey also said that KMV is one of the most premier institution that has always produced strong women leaders in the society and has always worked for women emancipation and empowerment. Dr Anshu Jain, Department of Laws, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar was also present as the speaker.Dr.Jain quoted the legacy of Nelson Mandela for the establishment of democracy and equality in South Africa and said that the decade of 2019 to 2028 is dedicated to Nelson Mandela. Dr Jain further said that Gandhi realised the evil effects of apartheid in South Africa, which ultimately became the policy programme of Gandhi in India as Gandhi was the supporter of non-violence, economic emancipation and political empowerment and both the leaders were responsible for abolishing apartheid in South Africa. Dr Rajan Sharma, Doaba College, Jalandhar in his address highlighted that Gandhi adopted the strategy of Satyagraha for fighting the injustice and through his mass appeal,  Gandhi inspired the civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr, Dalai lama, Barack Obama and many others. He further said that Gandhi was the only leader, who identify himself with the common people and turned the Congress party from a pressure group to a mass based movement and there is a need to follow the philosophy of Gandhi in the present context.Mrs. Nupur Sandhu, President, Rotary Club of Jalandhar was also present on the occasion. Madam Principal lauded the efforts of Dr Gurjot, Mrs Ashima Sahni & Dr. Harpreet for successfully organising the seminar.
