 The department of History at KMV since its inception in 1952 is providing quality and innovative education besides carrying out research activities. The department has competent faculty who attempt to engage students with multiple perspectives on various themes in order to enable them to analyse those perspectives critically.The faculty is regularly finding out creative and innovative method of teaching. The faculty is engaged in research publications in peer reviewed journals of national and international repute. They also present papers in various seminars, workshops, national and international conferences.

 The department has set-up an Archives which has digitalised and conserved rare and old books. Students are taken to historical places and many educational trips/tours are arranged for them to promote and inculcate research activities amongst them. They also bring laurels to the department and college by participating in regional, state and national level competitions. Students are motivated to organise events within and outside college to hone their leadership and managerial skills. History (Honours) students at KMV have set record in sweeping all top university merit positions.

 History Pass outs find work in different fields and in many different roles as Archivists, Curators, Conservators, Historians, Civil Servants, Teachers and Researchers.

 

AIM

  • The main aim of the department is to promote research oriented teaching and learning in history and also to create realization among students about the significance and relevance of History to understand our rich heritage.

  • The Vision is to help the students to become good academicians, administrators, parliamentarians, politicians, writers, lawyers, journalists and leaders

 

MISSION

  • The mission is of the department is to make students good citizens who would promote patriotism, universal -brotherhood, peace and harmony in the world

ACHIEVEMENTS/ ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • The faculty has to credit one Minor Research Project granted by the UGC ,
  • In addition the faculty has conducted three surveys and two research projects under the ageis of UGC funded byGandhian Studies Centre
  • About 30 Papers Published by the faculty in International, National Journals and Books
  • 60 Papers Presented by the faculty at International and National Seminars
  • Faculty has acted as Resource Persons in Academic / Workshops at National and State level events as well as within the college for various Innovative Programmes like School for Personality Development, Foundation Programme and Moral Education Lectures
  • Faculty is also conducting training programs for JCI and Rotary Club of Jalandhar
  • One of the Faculty member is certified Zone Trainer

  • Vibrant YOUNG HISTORIANS ASSOCIATION
  • Personal Computers and Laptop to show historical clippings on you-tube for research work, for making presentations on various issues relating to national and international importance.
  • Conducted more than 250 quizzes in schools and colleges of jalandhar and adjoining villages.
  • Developing Leadership Qualities among Students by delegating duties to them for organizing many events independently
  • Organizing interdisciplinary events like “Importance of Voting”, “Corruption Free India” – can we really do it ‘and best message contests on special days like Teachers Day, Independence Day etc.
  • Various projects and training programmes undertaken in collaboration with Rotary International and JCI (NGO’s).
  • Six day workshop was organized in 2008 on Ethics and Human Values.
  • Dr. Monica completed her Minor Research Project on Leather Industry in 2010.
  • Dr. Monica Sharma guided three  students for M.Phil from ICDEOL, Himachal  Pradesh  University, Shimla.
  • Good Placement Record of pass outs who are working as  Lecturers, teachers, councilors, journalists, reporters and medical representatives etc
  • Mrs Gurjot Kaur (Zone Trainer JCI) regularly conducts training programmes for colleges, Schools, various organizations and RYLA participants.
  • Dr. Monica Sharma Director of Gandhian Studies Centre is conducting various programmes to spread teachings of Mahatma Gandhi amongst youth
  • The faculty is regularly finding out creative and innovative method of teaching
  • LIGHT and SOUND programme on the MAKING OF MAHATMA – THE LIFE OF MAHATMA GANDHI was staged thrice in college. Twenty two history students enacted in it.

Infrastructure

INFRASTRUCTURE/ TEACHING LEARNING RESOURCES AND TOOLS

 

  • The Department has a separate faculty room for teachers to carry out department planning, meetings and dealing with students problems.
  • . The department room is well equipped having three almirah’s, a computer, printer, internet connectivity, laptop, pen drives, tape recorder, camera, white board, C.D’s (audio visual) on various topics relating to programs, movies, models, Atlas, maps, pictures, charts and flash cards
  • Education in the department is a blend of classroom teaching and use of technology in the form of online lectures which are put up on you tube too for the reference of the students at their leisure from their homes and power point presentations covering every aspect of the syllabus
  • Huge collection of cuttings of editorials and articles of various newspapers of historical events of national and international importance
  • Rich departmental library with 1025 books out of which 675 are exclusively on Gandhi and National Movement
  • Free access to students to use these books and prepare notes
  • Main library has 2125 books
  • Fusion International Journal of Interdisciplinary Approaches, Gandhi Marg and Indian Journal of Economic and Social History)
