International Participation in the International Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and IP Management for Startups at KMV

More than 950 Participants from abroad &23 states of India participate in the workshop with much enthusiasm

KanyaMaha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) organised a three-day international workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and IP Management for Startups. The workshop facilitated discussions on the nuances of IPR and provided essential knowledge about legal frameworks and policies for IP management. More than 950 participants from India and 23 states, along with participants from the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia, and other countries, enthusiastically participated. The workshop, jointly organised by K.M.V. IPR Cell and K.M.V. I.I.C., with the support of CSIR-IMMT, commenced with Dr. Kapil Arya, Principal Scientist, CSIR-IMMT, New Delhi, addressing the participants. During his address, Dr. Arya discussed various aspects of IPR and IP management, emphasising on trademarks, copyrights, patents, and their significance for startups. He also shed light on trademark selection, benefits, branding, filing patents, design filing, copyright filing, and infringement. On the second day of the workshop, Dr. T. Pavan Kumar, Senior Scientist, CSIR-IMMT, Bhubaneswar, participated as a guest speaker. Addressing the participants, Dr. Kumar focused on the importance of patents for inventions, using global and national case studies to elaborate on the protection of inventions through patents. He emphasised on the benefits of IP from a global perspective and discussed efforts required at each stage of bringing a research idea to the market, as well as the development of IP, including rights of property, copyrights, patents, trade secrets, their duration, and renewal processes. Dr. Kumar stressed the need to focus on innovation, research, and inventions for investment in new ideas and technologies, explaining the vital role of IP in encouraging innovation, creativity, and economic development. He also discussed the history of patents, the structure of patent documents, and the process of drafting a proposal through a case study. Additionally, he addressed the increasing importance of IP in technology, biotechnology, and pharmaceuticals, particularly ensuring access to essential goods and services in developing countries. Principal Prof.Atima Sharma Dwivedihighlighted the efforts made by KMV in empowering women through education, ensuring continuous efforts to enhance students’ education and knowledge, making this international workshop on IPR and IP management a significant step in this direction. She expressed gratitude to the guest speakers and lauded the efforts made by K.M.V.’s IPR Cell and I.I.C. for the successful organization of the event.
