Kanya Maha Vidyalaya-the Heritage & Autonomous institution always focuses on the inculcation of research aptitude amongst the students. Under this umbrella four students of undergraduate and postgraduate of Physics, Kanya Maha Vidyalaya participated in the 10th IAPT National Student Symposium in Physics (IAPT-NSSP) which was held at Panjab University, Chandigarh for 3 days from 27th to 29th October, 2023. Students from all over India participated in the symposium and presented their research work in the form of oral presentations and posters in front of dignitaries and scientists. This symposium is one of the renowned events of IAPT which offers a platform for young researchers at Undergraduate and Postgraduate in the colleges to showcase their research work. Inauguration of this event was done by Prof. PK Ahluwalia, President IAPT, Prof. Arvind, vice chancellor Punjabi University, Patiala, Prof. C.N. Kumar and various other dignified personalities. The program included oral presentation, poster presentation, talks by eminent scientists and visits to various laboratories. Expert talks were organized to introduce students to the latest research topics. Prof. Arvind gave a talk on the topic ‘Insights from Quantum Mechanical Reality’ in which he explained quantum entanglement, physical interpretation, quantum computing devices and introduced the students to ‘The National Quantum Mission’. Prof. P.K. Ahluwalia, IAPT President, gave a very motivational talk about the star performer of Big Science-Cyclotron followed by an interesting movie on the journey of scientists and workers in bringing cyclotron from Rochester to Punjab which is now placed in Physics Department of Panjab University (Chandigarh), Prof. J.S. Bagla, IISER Mohali introduced the audience with ‘Gravitational Lensing in Astronomy’, Prof. P.K. Panigrahi from IISER Kolkata, gave a hands-on approach on Quantum Computing followed by amazing talk of Prof. S. Sahijpal, Dept. of Physics, P.U. on ‘Origin and Evolution of the universe’. Then talk on ‘Indian Space Sciences Programs’ was given by Prof. S. Sahijpal, Dept. of Physics, P.U. Chandigarh. He introduced the students with the projects initiated by the government of India and explained the space missions of India like Aditya-1 with very detailed information. Our students presented their innovative ideas in the symposium on topics ‘Waste Water Stagnation (Roadex-trellis)’ that proposed idea an effective remedy for the ejection of stagnated water, ‘Exploration Centres’ which was focussed on giving mentorship and research exposure to the school students, ‘Effect of dysprosium on the physical and optical properties of Telloborate glasses’ and ‘Optical and Physical characterization of erbium doped zinc boro tellurite glasses for photonic applications’ which were focussed on the optical and physical characterization of tellurite glasses. By participating in events like this the undergraduate and post graduate students to discover their own creative talents and think outside the box. The idea behind motivating undergraduate students to participate in events like this is to boost the creative minds of our budding innovators and at the same time making them ready for taking research as their future prospective. The symposium fostered students’ scientific spirit and curiosity, encouraging them to make their career in research. The students enjoyed learning through this symposium and felt a connection to basic sciences. Madam Principal appreciated the students for their excellent performance in the symposium and lauded the physics department for motivating students.
