KMV organises a two day workshop on Campus Sustainability: Implementing Zero Waste Practices

More than 500 participants participated with full enthusiasm in this workshop organised under the research project granted to the faculty members of KMV by DST, Government of India

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) organised a two-day workshop on the topic Campus Sustainability: Implementing Zero Waste Practices. The workshop was organised under a research project granted by the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India to Dr.Pardeep Arora (PI) and Dr.Harpreet Kaur (Co-PI) the faculty of KMV on the topic Developing Low Cost Teaching Aids in Promoting Sustainable Waste Management: Swachh Bharat Paradigms.Dr. Harveen Kaur, Environment and Sustainability Specialist, Delhi participated as a keynote speaker in this workshop.  She is an Environment & Sustainability Specialist with experience working with governmentagencies, corporate sector and academia. Principal Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi during her address, welcomed all the guests and made them aware of the need and importance of sustainable waste management to achieve the objective of Swachh Bharat. Along with this, she also inspired all the youth to strengthen the resolve for a clean India as well as a new emerging India. During the session, Dr. Harveen Kaur emphasized the significance of understanding zero waste principles, which advocate for minimising waste generation and maximising resource efficiency. She elaborated on the implications of electronic waste, highlighting its environmental impact and the necessity for proper disposal and recycling methods. The discussion also covered sustainability as a holistic approach that encompasses social, economic, and environmental dimensions, encouraging students to think critically about their consumption habits.  Dr. Harveen Kaur also played a pivotal role in empowering both students and teachers to attain a zero-waste environment within the school setting through various engaging activities. She motivated the students to foster a sense of responsibility and awareness regarding waste management among the school community.  She encouraged participants to actively contribute to reducing waste and promoting sustainability.It is pertinent to mention that more than 500 students from various schools, Govt. Sr. Sec. School Lambapind, Santokhpura, Noorpur, Devi Sahay SanatanDharam Industrial Area and Doaba School participated in this workshop with full zeal and enthusiasm. Madam Principal lauded the efforts of Dr. Pardeep Arora, Associate Professor & Head AI & Data Science and Dr Harpreet Kaur,  Head, P. G. Department of Fashion Designing and the whole organising committee for successfully organising the workshop.
