Physics Comes to Life: Prof. HC Verma’s Inspiring Workshop at Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar

Event Date

January 18, 2025

Jalandhar, January 18, 2025 – Renowned Indian experimental physicist, author, and Padma Shri awardee Prof. Harish Chandra Verma, popularly known as HCV, conducted an inspiring and interactive experimental physics workshop at Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (KMV), Jalandhar, on January 18, 2025. Prof. Verma, an emeritus professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT-Kanpur), is highly regarded for his significant contributions to physics education and his approachable teaching methods.

The workshop saw the enthusiastic participation of over 500 students, including those from KMV and nearby schools, eager to learn about the wonders of physics. Prof. Verma showcased a variety of live demonstrations, effectively illustrating complex concepts in physics and making them easily understandable for the students. His interactive approach allowed participants to engage with the experiments directly, sparking curiosity and providing a hands-on learning experience. Prof. Verma emphasized the importance of observation, critical thinking, and inquiry-based learning in developing a deeper understanding of physics. His ability to simplify intricate theories into relatable experiments made the subject highly engaging for the students, many of whom expressed their newfound excitement about the subject.

The workshop was designed not only to explain the theoretical aspects of physics but also to show the students how experimental work is an essential part of scientific inquiry. The students were able to ask questions, actively participate in the experiments, and witness scientific principles come to life in real-time.

Following the workshop, the students participated in an exciting experimental video quiz show named the LEPTON (Learning Physics through Nature) Program was organised. The quiz allowed students to test their newfound knowledge in a fun and competitive environment.

The event also coincided with the celebration of International Quantum Year, during which an expert talk on quantum networks was delivered, offering valuable insights into this cutting-edge field of research.

Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi, Principal of Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, commended the efforts of Prof. HC Verma and expressed her appreciation for his dedication to making science, particularly physics, accessible and engaging for students. She also emphasized the importance of fostering a scientific mindset and critical thinking among young learners.

This enriching session not only celebrated the beauty of physics but also highlighted the importance of interactive learning and its potential to inspire the next generation of scientists and thinkers. Prof. Verma’s contribution to the field of physics education continues to resonate, fostering a deep interest in science among students across the country. Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi, Principal Congratulated P.G. Department of Physics for taking such initiatives.
