11 Countries & 23 States of India Participate in International Workshop at KMV

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya- the Heritage & Autonomous institution, Seat of Women Empowerment with Top National and State Rankings by India Today Survey of Best Colleges 2020 (various categories) & Outlook Magazine Ranking always keep on organising various activities in order to enhance the academic knowledge of its faculty. In an another new initiative, KMV organised a Two Day InternationalE-Workshop on Research Methodology for Social Sciences. In the workshop more than250 participants from 11countries namely Uzbekistan, Manila, Morocco, Bhutan, Pakistan, Portugal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Bangladesh &23 states of Indianamely Rajasthan, Kolkata, New Delhi, Manipur, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Chandigarh, UP, Odessa, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, Haryana, Bihar, Gujarat, Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab participated to enhance their knowledge.The workshop commenced with the inaugural address by Principal Prof Dr Atima Sharma Dwivedi. In her address, Prof Dwivedi highlighted the relevance of quantitative research especially in social sciences. She emphasised that it is the high time to train the young scientist in social sciences through such workshops as the research in social sciences has already suffered a lot. She further maintained that in this competitive world, the teachers should always strive to pursue more quality based research as this is the only way through which students can also be motivated to engage themselves in the research oriented activities.Prof. Dr. Suresh Kumar Sharma, Punjab University, ChandigarhSpecialist in Statistical Modelling, Bioinformatics and Statistical Genetics was the resource person for this international workshop. Dr Suresh is also working on six other projects with WHO (World HealthOrganization) and ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) in collaboration with PGIMER and GMCH, Chandigarh, India. During the first day of the workshop, Dr Suresh introduced basics of working with SPSS and also explained eloquently the basic concepts of statistical methods such as Averages, Dispersion, Skewness, Correlation through SPSS. The first day consisted of two sessions& both the sessions were highly appreciated by the participants and a large number of queries from the participants were also answered by Dr Suresh very satisfactorily. In the second day of the workshop,Dr Suresh Kumar Sharma discussed the simple and multiple regression and also explained various parametric test through SPSS. In the second session he explained various non-parametric tests and their applications through SPSS. At the end of each technical session he also interacted with participants and addressed their queries.Dr. Jatinder Pal, Dean Research, KMV Jalandhar presented the Vote of Thanks to all the participants. Principal Prof Dr Atima Sharma Dwivedi lauded the efforts of IQAC and Research Cell for organising such a fruitful & enlightening workshop for the faculty members. Dr. Narinderjit Kaur from Department of Chemistry was the moderator for the entire workshop.
