The Green Belt in Kanya Maha Vidyalaya is maintained through various plantation drives carried inside and outside the campus. The dual objective of these drives is to enhance the tree cover and also to sensitize the students about the importance of trees. The Green cover is enriched by extensive plantation of trees along walking tracks, playgrounds and within lawns. The lawns in the college includes science block lawn, Pasricha block lawn, main lawn opposite Commerce block, IT block lawn,  having many trees, herbs, shrubs and flowering plants. The major trees in the campus include Ashoka, Neem, Gulmohar, Mango, Peepal, Acacia, Banyan, Bamboo, Lemon, which have been planted in campus as well as in a well-established botanical garden. In addition, many flowering plant varieties like Hibiscus, Marigold, Roses, Petunia, Bougainvillea, Dahlias, Pansies, Chrysanthemumsalso exist in green campus of college. All this above mentioned flora add to the plant biodiversity. Adequate attention has been paid to plantation of trees, their maintenance and protection. Under landscaping project, the green belt is established outside the campus also.  Green belt leads to beautification of the area, absorbs many pollutants, helps in removal of suspended particulate matter, purifies air, conserves biodiversity, helps in retention of soil moisture andimproves the green ambience of campus.

Kanya Maha Vidyalaya’s Sapling of Life club is solely dedicated to preservation of environment. It consists of a volunteer group of students of different departments and teachers, who promote participation of students in working towards the conservation and sustainability of environment. Under this club, we perform activities which can bring environment awareness in students and motivate them to act as responsible citizens. Many activities are organized throughout the year to make a humble contribution to the environment.

Activities related to the maintenance of Green Belt

1.Plantation drives are regularly organised in college campus. Saplings of various varieties of trees like mango, neem, mulberry etc. are planted all across the campus. Plants were also ordered through govt. I-Haryali App. (A government initiative for green environment). A mass plantation drive also carried out under the state governments initiative “NANAK BAGICHI PROGRAM” to create environmental awareness by planting the saplings on 550th Parkashpurab of Guru Nanak Dev ji.

2.Vegetative Propagation in the botanical garden by the students. Under this activity, students propagated different plants like Sansevieria, money plant, Portulaca, Ruscus and other succulent plants through their vegetative parts.

3.Every year “Earth Day” is celebrated on 22^nd April by organizing various awareness activities. The activities include poster making, slogan writing, video making and organizing plantation drives. Students make posters on various issues related to the problems of their planet, different measures to protect them, to promote environmental awareness and to draw attention to rapid extinction of species in our world today. Students give a message of reducing pollution, improving air quality and surroundings for making planet clean and green.

4. Every year, World Environment Day is celebrated on 5^th June, which includes–

1. Online poster making competition.
2. Slogan writing competition.            
3. Sapling of life (in your home garden or pots)
4. Online quiz for students and teachers to create awareness.

5. VAN MAHOTSAV WEEK is an annual festival celebrated in the first week of July in our institution to raise awareness about the importance of trees which help in lowering the carbon footprint and maintaining ecological balance.
