Department of Physics at KMV has always motivated the students to attend various programs like Summer Schools etc. in national/ international universities and research centres and make career in the field of research. As a result, many students are offered fellowships under the umbrella of various research grants offered by DST and DAE to pursue higher studies. Dr. Sandeep Kaur from P.G. Department of Physics is one such name. She is recently awarded with Kiran Wise Post Doctoral Fellowship (PDF) from Department of Science and technology, Government of India, under the mentorship of Dr. Gopi Sharma. The Kiran Wise PDF is a highly competitive and esteemed accolade, awarded to individuals who demonstrate outstanding potential and contribute significantly to their respective fields.

Dr. Kaur has done her Bachelor’s (Non. Medical) and Masters’ of Science (Physics) from Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar. She was awarded with IANS summer internship programme. She did her internship under Dr. Sanjay Jhinghan from Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi during her graduation. She did her Ph.D under the able guidance of Dr. Neetu Verma, Associate Professor, Kanya Maha Vidyalaya and Dr. O.P. Pandey, Senior Professor, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala. During her PhD Dr. Kaur, was awarded with a six months ICTP TRIL fellowship from International Center for theoretical physics (ICTP) and ENEA, Italy. During her fellowship she worked at Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA), Italy under the guidance of Dr. Mauro Falconeri. During her training period she worked on the structural properties of glasses and organic materials with special attention to the low frequency region. She expressed her gratitude to her teachers from the P.G. Department of Physics and Madam Principal for providing her opportunities at various stages of her student life. She also thanked the Govt. of India for the grants like SERB project grants and DBT Star college schemes because of which colleges can send their students to internships for getting hands-on training on various instruments and can take part in conferences.
