Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar an autonomous and heritage institution has always stressed upon innovations in science education for enabling smart and inclusive growth of students. Discovering and developing newer and better ways for women empowerment and evolving a better society is a routine effort at KMV The Heritage Institution. Physics faculty members Dr. Neetu Verma and Dr. Sangeeta Prasher of Kanya Maha Vidyalaya a leading educational institution, were the only teachers from Punjab, who were invited by Padma Shri Prof H.C.Verma Ex Professor IIT Kanpur for 6 days residential National workshop of Utsahi Physics Teachers, designed to provide a platform for educators from all over India to exchange knowledge, explore innovative teaching methodologies, and enhance their skills. Now Kanya Maha Vidyalaya Jalandhar will act as a mentor for the other institutions to adopt the methodologies taught in the workshop during their classroom ventures.
Shiksha Sopan, an NGO lead by Ex-Professor IIT Kanpur, Padam Shri H.C Verma, who organized a transformative Experimental Workshop, aimed to enhance teaching methodologies as per the guidelines of NEP-2020 by incorporating innovative tools and techniques into the classroom teaching.
The event held at the Shiksha Sopan Ashram, was attended by educators from various parts of the country who were eager to broaden their pedagogical horizons, focused on empowering Physics teachers to utilize advanced teaching aids effectively, thus enhancing student engagement and understanding. Padma Shri H.C. Verma, a distinguished Physicist, a highly regarded figure for his contributions to the field of Physics and his highly acclaimed textbook series, Concepts of Physics, shared his expertise and invaluable insights with the group discussions and interactive sessions, the participants not only learned from H.C. Verma but also from one another, creating a vibrant community of educators committed to enhancing the quality of physics education in India. The KMV Physics faculty Dr Neetu Verma presented innovative initiatives and efforts put by Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi , Principal KMV and faculty for the holistic development of its students. Such initiatives serve as catalysts for professional development, encouraging teachers to adopt innovative methodologies and engage students in exciting ways. The participants expressed their gratitude to Padam Shri Prof H.C. Verma and other Shiksha Sopan members for organizing this participants. His expertise and passion for teaching have earned him numerous accolades and recognition throughout his career.
During the workshop, Prof. Verma demonstrated a range of practical experiments and explained in detail the concepts leading to the activity and illustrated how teachers can incorporate these aids into their daily lessons to elucidate complex physics concepts and promote interactive learning. The attendees had the opportunity to explore and learn about various teaching aids, including demonstrations, models, and simulations, which can serve as powerful tools in conveying abstract scientific principles in an accessible and engaging manner. The participants had hands-on experience with the making of a microscope that can be utilized to get an image of the microorganisms with the help of a mobile camera. A session was conducted to establish a research lab on a cost effective platform using household electronic equipment. As an additional highlight of the event, a captivating industrial visit to a Swasa mask making industry was organized for the attendees. This visit was aimed to understand the underlying science and technology involved in mask making and involving industrial research into academic curriculum. The Experimental Workshop on Teaching Aids fostered a collaborative environment where the attendees actively exchanged ideas, best practices, and challenges faced in the teaching profession. Through exceptional learning opportunity, which will undoubtedly empower them to become more effective educators.
