An online event on intellectual property matters was arranged by Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (KMV), the historically significant and autonomous school that is the seat of women’s empowerment and the top-ranked college in India according to India Today Ranking (Various Categories). P.G Department of Physics & Institution Innovation Council (KMV-IIC) organized an Online Session on “Intellectual Property Matters”on February 6, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The session’s resource person was Mr. Parvez, Principal Associate, Khurana & Khurana and IIPRD. Mr. Parvez is a Software Inventor, Patentee and Entrepreneur and has obtained patents for his inventions in India & USA. He is a Registered Patent Agent admitted to practice before the Indian Patent Office. He has worked with hundreds of Intellectual Property (IP) Creators, Inventors and Inventions to help with their Innovation & IP Protection Strategy.

The notion of intellectual property rights was introduced by Mr. Parvez, who also covered the different kinds of IP, including patents, designs, trademarks, copyright, semiconductor integrated circuit layout designs (SICLD), and geographic indications. He provided thorough information on the technical aspects, the filing process, the costs involved, the timeline, and the duration of protection. He said that the cost of education has been reduced by 80% for educational institutes for IPR filing since Sept 2021. He emphasized Intellectual property rights are territorial rights, it’s important to first to protect and then publish. Registration is important for each IP. He mentioned career opportunities available in the field of IPRs-Patent examiner and Patent agents. He also interacted with faculty and students. Dr. Neetu Verma, Head of PG department of Physics, presented a vote of thanks.
