P G Dept of Zoology of Kanya MahaVidyalaya, Jalandhar conducted webinar on the occasion of World Wetlands Day by Dr.AnishDua, Professor, Department of Zoology, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.
World Wetlands Day is observed every year on February 2 and is celebrated to raise global awareness about the vital role of wetlands for people and our planet. This day also marks the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on February 2, 1971, in the Iranian city of Ramsar on the shores of the Caspian Sea.
Dr.Dua started his lecture with this year’s theme “Wetlands Action For People And Nature” of the world wetland day and highlighted the importance of wetlands. He also emphasized on the conservation and protection of catchment area for a healthy wetland ecosystem and pointed out that the wetlands are important for retaining water during dry periods, maintaining aesthetic beauty and biodiversity that has a strong link with sustainable ecosystem. Finally, he concluded his talk by inspiring the participants to take action for the conservation of the wetland ecosystem. The webinar ended with a healthy discussion and the vote of thanks by Head of the Department, Mrs. Sadhana Tandon.
