Two Scholars of P.G. Department of Physics, Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar, Haramanpreet Kaur and Anchal Pathania, recently showcased their research findings at the prestigious International Congress on Glasses (ICG-2025). This landmark event, organized by CSIR-CGCRI and ICG at Biswa Bangla Convention Center, Kolkata, marked a significant milestone as it was held in India after a remarkable 39 years.

Haramanpreet is working on a DST-SERB Power Project in collaboration with TIFR, and Anchal is involved in a BRNS project in collaboration with BARC, under the guidance of Dr. Gopi Sharma and Dr. Neetu Verma. Both scholars seized this unique opportunity to present their cutting-edge research in the burgeoning fields of optics and photonics, and radiation shielding properties of glasses, respectively.

The five-day conference from 20-24thJanuary, complemented by a three-day tutorial (17-19th January), provided a comprehensive platform for the students to delve deeper into the fascinating world of glass science. They explored the state-of-the-art laboratories and manufacturing units at CGCRI, gaining valuable insights into the production of bioactive-glasses, the operation of large production melting furnaces, and the advancements in fuel cell technology. A visit to the esteemed Atma Ram Memorial Museum further enriched their experience, offering a captivating journey through the history of glassmaking in India.

On the second day of the conference, Haramanpreet and Anchal presented their research findings through posters, which garnered significant attention and appreciation from renowned experts in the field. The event provided an invaluable platform for the students to interact with esteemed personalities, including glass guru Prof. Arun Varshneya, Prof. Edgar Dutra Zanatto, and Prof. Manoj Chaudhary. These interactions facilitated valuable discussions, enabling the students to seek guidance for their research projects and expand their knowledge horizons. Furthermore, the conference fostered meaningful connections with fellow research students from around the globe, enriching their academic network.Additionally, they had the privilege of participating in inauguration of the “Glass for Women” committee meeting, emphasizing the growing importance of women in the field of glass science.

This remarkable experience at the International Congress on Glasses 2025 serves as a testament to the commitment of Kanya Maha Vidyalaya to fostering a vibrant research environment and empowering its students to achieve academic excellence on the global stage.
