Organises Live Interaction & Lab Visit with ENEA, Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development,Rome, Italy
Kanya Maha Vidyalaya- the Heritage & Autonomous institution, Seat of Women Empowerment with Top National and State Rankings by India Today Survey of Best Colleges 2020 (various categories) has taken yet another innovative initiative to promote sciences among students by organising KMV International Series (Physics Chapter).Under this series, students will be taken to world’s renowned research laboratories like CERN, ENEA etc. virtually.
The first chapter of KMV International series was attended by more than 100 participants through Zoom platform and many more joined the virtual event through other social media platforms like Youtube and Facebook. The series started with the inaugural address by Principal Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi. During her address, Prof. Dwivedi averred that the importance of sciences especially in this time of pandemic is very much where only science can save the humanity. She further maintained that this international series has provided a platform to various acclaimed scholars from around the globe to share their perspectives on science education with the students. She expressed her deep gratitude to all the speakers for sharing their views and experiences with KMVites. She then welcomed key speaker of the event Dr. Alessia Cemmi, ENEA FSN-FISS-SNI, Italian National Agency for New Technologies Rome (Italy). Dr. Alessia Cemmi gave overview of her research laboratory ENEA, Italy. She described ENEA (Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development) as an Italian Government-sponsored research and development agency. In her presentation, Dr. Cemmi introduced Calliope gamma irradiation facility at ENEA, Casaccia R.C. and organised a virtual visit to 60-Cobalt irradiation plant, research laboratories. She also showed Pool-type irradiation facility equipped with a 60Co gamma source in a high volume shielded cell. Further she introduced Calliope activities like Nuclear, Space and High Energy Physics qualifications; experimental researches. She also showed videos based on external view of laboratory, internal view of irradiation cell, control room and up-down source operation. She then presented Dosimetric and characterisation laboratory of 60Co Calliope facility at ENEA, Casaccia R.C. where Optical and Spectroscopic characterisation facility and Accelerated ageing test facility were showcased. Under the HortSpace project, she presented development of plant based platforms for use in space craft. The Virtual visit gave a wonderful opportunity to students as well as faculty members to observe international research laboratory very closely in a minute way. Madam Principal lauded the efforts Dr Gopi Sharma, Dean, International Affairs for successfully organising the international series.
