Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) organized 137th Saraswati Poojan Samaroh in a ceremonial way with its traditional fervour and sanctity. The chief guest Mr. Jaspreet Singh, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar was accorded floral felicitations on this auspicious occasion. Sh. Chander Mohan ji, President, Arya Shiksha Mandal presided over the ceremonies to mark the onset of the new academic session formally. Dr. Sushma Chawla, Vice President, KMV Managing Committee, Mr Alok Sondhi, General Secretary, KMV Managing Committee, Mrs Neerja Chander Mohan, Member, KMV Managing Committee, Dr. Satpal Gupta, Member, KMV Managing Committee, Dr. Kamal Gupta, Member, KMV Managing Committee, Dr. Pardeep Bhandari, Principal, Doaba College & Mrs Anuradha Sondhi also graced the occasion. The proceedings of the function commenced with an invocation to the Goddess of Learning & Knowledge –Maa Saraswati to seek her blessings for successful future of new entrants of this academic session. Senior scholars recited welcome songs for fresh batches of scholars who have embarked on the journey of higher education in the college. New students reciprocated their heart-felt gratitude for warm welcome being accorded to them through a recital. The Special Guest of the function was Padma Shri Dr. Kiran Seth, Professor Emeritus at IIT, Delhi and Founder of SPIC MACAY, actively engaged in the promotion of Indian Arts and Culture among youth. He motivated young learners through precept and speech by his firm faith that devotion to one’s passion should be meditative, a means to higher goal not as an end in life. Welcoming the Chief Guest of the day, Sh. Chander Mohan ji, reaffirmed his faith in the immense potential and monumental will of the KMV scholars, mentoring skills of the faculty and futuristic vision of the college Principal that are taking KMV to newer heights by achieving historic landmarks in higher education. Principal Prof.(Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi read out the detailed Annual Report of the college’s outstanding achievements in various fields-academics, co academics, sports, cultural activities etc. Imbued with a sense of pride, she apprised the eminent guests that the institution is creating history by setting up new milestones in the academic arena. KMV is the first women institution in Punjab to earn the coveted status of Autonomous institution- a prestigious position that bestows the college the freedom to bring about academic reforms for the progression of young India. Today, Kanya Maha Vidyalaya stands tall as No. 1 college of Punjab, awarded with top rankings among best colleges in India by prestigious magazines namely, India Today, Outlook and Times of India along with Times Achiever Award winner for Excellence in Progressive Education (2022), it being the recent one. Embellished with 4.5 stars for Institution’s Innovation Council by Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell, Govt. of India, the Institution has earned its place among the top-notch colleges of India. Meritorious achievements of both scholars and faculty in multifarious areas like Co-curricular, NCC, NSS, Sports, Research & Publication were also lauded. Many teachers were honoured for completion of their Ph.D., book publications and gaining IPRs. The event also witnessed three releases on this occasion namely the annual issue of ‘Youth Pulse’ Newsline by Dept. of ECA, Social Outreach Newsletter released by the team of Social Outreach, a value -added programme and posters of Radio VoW (Voice of Women) Season 5 by PG Department of Journalism & Mass Communication. Congratulating the college authorities and students on gaining newer heights constantly, S. Jaspreet Singh expressed his deep sense of honour for KMV. He motivated the young learners to imbibe the best ethical and moral qualities through their education that is the only tool for empowerment, hence instrumental in the progression of mankind. He maintained that ethos of serving society for economic, social and political growth of nation should be the core value of education. A formal vote of thanks was extended by Sh. Alok Sondhi, General Secretary, KMV Managing Committee. Madam Principal lauded the efforts of Dr Madhumeet, Head, PG Department of English, Dr Manju Sahni, Head, PG Department of Chemistry & Dr Reena Sharma for successfully organising the function.
