Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) successfully concluded a national workshop on the topic Waste Segregation and Hand Hygiene. The workshop was organised under a research project granted by the National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India to the faculty members Dr Pardeep Arora and Dr Harpreet Kaur of KMV on the topic Developing Low Cost Teaching Aids in Promoting Sustainable Waste Management: Swachh Bharat Paradigms. Mr. Puneet Sharma (PCS), Joint Commissioner-cum- Zonal Commissioner (Cantt.), Jalandhar was the chief guest for the occasion on the first day of the workshop. Ms. Anusha Pinto, Punjab Good Governance Fellow, Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar participated as a keynote speaker in this workshop. Ms. Barun Kaur Maan, speaker, social activist & influencer was the second speaker of the day. Principal Prof. Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi during her address welcomed all the guests and made them aware of the need and importance of sustainable waste management to achieve the objective of Swachh Bharat. Along with this, she also inspired all the youth to strengthen the resolve for a clean India as well as a new emerging India. Speaking on this occasion, Ms. Anusha shared with the participants the criteria of waste segregation in various coloured dustbins and benefits of waste management with focus on reuse, reduce and recycle & also shed light on the social and economic impact of waste. Ms. Barun talked about citizen initiatives which can help to reduce waste & focused on the use of bamboo toothbrushes, avoiding plastic decorations and balloons, sustainable pads, scrubber of jute or coconut and bees wax paper instead of aluminium foils. It is pertinent to mention that more than 500 students from various schools participated in this workshop with full zeal and enthusiasm. Madam Principal lauded the efforts of Dr Pardeep Arora, Principal Investigator and Dr Harpreet Kaur, Co-investigator and the whole organising committee for successfully organising the workshop.
