Mr. James Glover, Academic Director, International Institute for the Advancement of Vedic Mathematics, UK was the resource person for the workshop
Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) organised an International Workshop on Wonders of Vedic Mathematicsin collaboration with Research Cell, Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar under the aegis of CURIEGrant. The workshop was organised by PG Department of Mathematics. Mr. James Glover, Chairman, Co-founder and Academic Director, International Institute for the Advancement of Vedic Mathematics, United Kingdom was the resource person for the workshop. More than 100 students participated from all over Punjab participated in this workshop. Mr James commenced his lecture by giving introduction aboutancientIndian Mathematics and its relevance in Modern Mathematics. He elaborated all the sutras which are the bases of the Vedic Mathematics. He also discussed application of various sutras for division using multiplication instead of subtractionand special method of multiplication of numbers that can be applied in elementary, middle, high and secondary school arithmetic and algebra, to gain faster results.He also introduced the methods to find the faster squaring, cube roots of big numbers, multiplication of a number with a number of nines. He described the use of Vedic Mathematics in series, sequences, trigonometry etc.In the conclusion, he said that Vedic Mathematics promotes mental calculation increases creativity and confidenceand also gives students a better way of understandingof Mathematics . He also appreciated the KMVfor spreading this enormous knowledge of ancient Indian Mathematicsthrough Certificate Course in Vedic Mathematics.Students showed keen interest in the entire session and asked relevant questions regarding Vedic Mathematics system, its techniques and applications in real time scenarios.Principal Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi lauded the efforts of Mrs Veena Deepak, Head, P.G. Department of Mathematics and all the faculty members of PG Department of Mathematics for organising such an interactive talk with renowned scientists. She averred that students as well as faculty have availed this wonderful opportunity to learn the concepts of science from international scholars which otherwise could have never been possible.
