Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) successfully organized a workshop on “Prototype/Process Design and Development,” aimed at enriching students’ understanding of biomass valorization, bio-based entrepreneurship, and innovative biorefinery strategies. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of the Departments of Biotechnology and Life Sciences. The workshop was led by Dr. Sachin Kumar, Deputy Director at Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Bio-Energy, Kapurthala, who provided expert insights into biorefinery operations, biofuel innovations, and sustainable energy technologies. He emphasized the importance of transitioning from research to bio enterprise establishment, discussing key areas such as biomass-derived product commercialization, funding avenues for biorefinery startups, and sustainable market strategies. Dr. Sachin also elaborated on the different generations of biofuels, ranging from food-based first-generation biofuels to advanced fourth-generation biofuels, which involve genetically engineered plants and microbial consortia. He also detailed various biomass-to-biofuel conversion technologies, covering both biochemical and thermochemical approaches, including enzymatic hydrolysis, microbial fermentation, pyrolysis, and gasification. The workshop was highly interactive, with students engaging in discussions on career opportunities, research collaborations, and industrial training in biofuel technologies. Principal Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi addressed the students, highlighting the significance of workshops in fostering innovation, bio-entrepreneurial skills, and hands-on knowledge in biomass utilization and renewable biofuels. She emphasized how such initiatives prepare students for future careers in biotechnology, bioenergy, and sustainable industries. Madam Principal lauded the efforts of Department of Biotechnology for successfully organising the event.
