Acclaimed Scholars and Experts Enlighten the Participants on Various Topics
Kanya Maha Vidyalaya- the Heritage & Autonomous institution, Seat of Women Empowerment, Ranked No.1 College in India by India Today Ranking (Various Categories) has organized a One Week Faculty Development Program on Capacity Building and Enhancement in Higher Education under DBT Star College Scheme. The inaugural session of the second day was addressed by Dr. Anish Dua, Professor, Department of Zoology, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. He delivered a talk on ‘Professional Excellence with Personal Restfulness’. In the very commencement of his lecture, he ignited the minds of all participants by saying one should identify the interest and start working for it. He said teachers should act as a mentor, guide, friend and philosopher. The approach of your work should be interdisciplinary and one should be dealing with her work in such a way that should be able to explain its application part even to a layman. He concluded his lecture by saying our approach should be holistic and based on fine principles including ecologically sustainable, politically participatory, economically productive and culturally vibrant. The second session of the day was addressed by Principal Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi, Principal KMV. The topic of her talk was ”Overcoming Immunity to Change: The Hidden Dynamics for Growth in Higher Education”. In her inspiring and brilliant talk, she emphasized on the fact that the 21st century is being driven by Human Capacity and that there is a need for every teacher to change and to adapt herself according to the present times in order to keep herself updated with the ongoing trends. She also enlisted various challenges that a teacher needs to overcome in order to make a change in herself such as Technical challenges, Adaptive challenges, Challenge to increase the will power for the change etc. During her enlightening session, she also explained the three key ingredients that are vital for the growth of a teacher namely Gut, Head & Heart and Hand i.e. work. She also motivated all the teachers to be the Leaders in their own capacity so that they can be a Role Model for their students. She also described the three Plateaus in the Adult Mental Development namely Socialized mind, Self-Authoring mind and Self-Transferring mind. The last session of the day was delivered by Dr Manoj Kumar, Professor, Department of Chemistry, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. He delivered his talk on ‘Examination Systems’. During his talk, he discussed the different components and basics of Credit Based System. He also talked about that how many credits a course should carry, the mode of conduct of practical and theory examinations,. The Board of Moderation may be constituted to review the results if the paper setting and evaluation is external. He also explained the formulas to calculate the SGPA(Semester Grade Point Average) and CGPA(Cumulative Grade Point Average). Principal Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that the Faculty Development Program will prove to be an enlightening experience for all the faculty members as it will open a new vistas for the teachers and hence, will give them new challenges & opportunities to explore more and more about their respective fields.
